She has covered various sports for major publications all over the world. The journalist spent more than a decade writing about various sports on behalf of The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. Nichols was a reporter for nine years during her period at ESPN which saw her win 2 Emmy Awards, and featured on many of ESPN's top programs, including NFL Countdown and SportsCenter. She also served as an on-line reporter for Monday Night Football broadcasts. After that, she joined CNN and Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN as well as CNN International. It was watched by millions of viewers from the entire world. Nichols reported at TNT during this period, in charge of NBA broadcasts such as regular season games, playoffs or All-Star teams. Also, she reported for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. It is the only nomination in 42 years of the award for a female from the more than 200 nominees contenders.
